Serhat graduated from the Australian Film Television & Radio School (AFTRS) in 2000 in Directing, winning the 2000 Australian Directors Guild (formally ASDA*) directing award.
His short films have screened at over 40 local & international film festivals. Whilst his AFTRS graduation short film Bound has won numerous awards and prizes, including Best Film at the 2001 Sydney International Film Festival Dendy Awards, the Audience Award at the New York University (NYU) International Student Film Festival, and also the first Bondi Short Film Festival.
He has a background in drama, theatre and acting. He directed and produced plays in Sydney before moving into film. Serhat was runner up of the European Union Film Award, with acceptance into the Berlinale Talent Campus, part of the 2003 Berlin International Film Festival.
His first feature film script ‘Cedar Boys’ was selected for the innuagrall Screen Australia (formally AFC) IndiVision script development programme, was also nominated for a AWGIE in 2006 (best un-produced screenplay). He is currently writing and developing 2 more films to direct. Serhat is Writer/Director/co-Producer of Cedar Boys, it will have its world premiere at the Sydney Film Festival.
