SD: How are you helping to change the Sydney creative landscape through your work?
VF: Design comes from a passion for life and for celebrating and communicating life. As a company we work across all aspects of society – creating living design solutions in finance, culture, architecture, property, education, the media, philanthropy, and so many other areas. This connection with all different aspects of society, of design, of the world, adds up. There is a domino effect where things grow and connect. It adds value to everything. We aim to seed ideas through society in a positive, genuine way. Frost is a company, but we are also a group of individuals who live and breathe what we do 24/7, 365 days a year. When you are really passionate you constantly want to make things better. Everything is an opportunity. Every job, every person, every day, every second has potential…
SD: What’s the most creative thing you’ve done in the last month?
VF: I art directed the latest Seafolly shoot on Haggerstone island! Sometimes I have to pinch myself to see if this is all a dream. A shoot in paradise with a dream model, dream client, photographer and crew.
SD: Name one trend driving the creative scene in Sydney right now and say a few words about how it is actively inspiring the creative community.
VF: I have no idea, maybe fear, panic?
SD: Name someone you consider to be a creative catalyst.
VF: Richard Neville, the librarian at the Mitchell Library. His profound knowledge of the library’s vast archive is inspiring.
Where is the best coffee in Sydney? And how important do you think caffeine is to the creative process? [Question asked by Simeon King, one of our other Creative Catalysts]
VF: Single Origin on Reservoir Street. That’s the best coffee not just in Sydney but in the world.
Coffee is vital. Certainly kickstarts you in the morning. In the process of lots of meetings you can end up having way too many, which can be counterproductive. Anything of good quality that you can put into your body helps with good quality output as well – wine, food, air.
